'Results show banking system solid'
LJUBLJANA: Results of stress tests on European banks proved the banking system was solid, Luxembourg Premier Jean-Claude Juncker, who heads the group of eurozone finance ministers, said here yesterday. "The stress test has shown that the European bank landscape is sufficiently robust," Juncker told a joint news conference with Slovenian Prime Minister Borut Pahor during an official visit to eurozone member Slovenia. He rejected reports that the tests had not been carried out properly, saying: "as a whole, the tests were credible, done in a very professional way and people were dealing with it in an independent and rule-based way." "I would like all the banks which have been taken under exam to publish details of the stress test concerning them, this would add to the credibility of the whole operation," he added. The Committee of European banking supervisors published last week the.....

SSM demands shorter working week
The Federation of Trade Unions of Macedonia (SSM) demands reduction of the working week from 40 to 32 or 36 hours. They also demand the government to subsidize a half of salaries of workers who were sent to forced vacations. These are some of measures proposed by SSM for the purpose of cushioning negative effects of the crisis. The state should also provide money for additional education and training of workers. SSM thinks that this would result in an improved social and economic situation for workers as well as decrease in unemployment. Chairman of SSM Zivko Mitrevski thinks that the state should not have any problems with providing money for salary subsidies in the amount of 30 to 50 percent. According to SSM, such measures saved some 5,000 working places

World Cup: England limp out after German rout
England are out of the 2010 World Cup after being thrashed by Germany at Free State Stadium in South Africa. Miroslav Klose and Lukas Podolski scored and it looked comfortable, but Matthew Upson's tally gave England a chance to come back.

Both sides used line-ups that were relatively unchanged. Three Lions boss Fabio Capello used the same starting XI that defeated Slovenia, keeping faith in Matthew Upson, James Milner, and Jermaine Defoe. Meanwhile Loew made a solitary variation to his squad as Klose, who returned from suspension, replaced the injured Cacau in attack.
